John Roth serves as the General Counsel at Addicus, where he oversees legal operations across the organization – including leading the internal legal team, managing external legal relationships and ensuring compliance across all business functions.

During his career, John has served in multiple in-house roles, including most recently as the Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Nassau Asset Management, a $25 billion multi-strategy asset manager with offices in New York, Hartford, London and Los Angeles. Prior to Nassau, he served as the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for Venor Capital Management in New York, Vice President and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer for Harbinger Capital Partners in New York, and Assistant General Counsel for Harbert Management Corporation in Birmingham. John also practiced law with Maynard Cooper & Gale PC (now Maynard Nexsen PC) and Balch & Bingham LLP, both in Birmingham.

John earned a B.S. in Finance from Auburn University, M.A. in Banking & Finance from the University of Alabama, J.D. (Magna Cum Laude) from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University, LL.M. (Taxation) from New York University, and Ed.D. from New York University. He is licensed to practice law in New York, Connecticut and Alabama.

John is a fellow of the American College of Investment Counsel and has spoken at conferences in New York, Greenwich (CT), Grand Cayman, Palm Beach, Washington and Abu Dhabi (UAE). In addition to being published in multiple industry and academic publications, John serves as an adjunct professor at the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development where his academic research focused on ethics in the investment management industry.

John lives in Birmingham and is married to the former Ann Harpole of Columbus, MS. Ann and John have two daughters, one of whom is an undergraduate student at NYU and the other a high school student at The Altamont School. John and his family funded the John Phillip Roth Endowed Scholarship at the University of Alabama, the John P. and Laura J. Roth Endowed Fund for Excellence in Ethics at Auburn University, and the Roth Family Ever Auburn Endowed Scholarship in the College of Sciences and Mathematics.
